Urological applications using the da Vinci® robot

Robot-assisted surgery represents the next stage of evolution for modern urology, bringing together the advantages of open and minimally invasive surgery.

While conventional minimally invasive surgery is very effective and highly recommended for many routine procedures, the rigid, long-handled instruments used are not generally suitable for more difficult or complex operations. It is in these kinds of operations that the advantages of robot-assisted surgery really come to the fore, delivering major benefits for both patient and surgeon.

These conditions include prostate cancer, ureteral strictures, bladder and renal cancer and vesicoureteral reflux. The da Vinci® surgical system is used by surgeons worldwide for prostatectomy and other urological procedures. It is a minimally invasive approach, which uses the latest surgical and robot-assisted technologies and is ideal for complex and difficult urological procedures, such as prostatectomies, in which the operation site is very cramped and surrounded by nerves responsible for bladder control and sexual function.
